Revolutionizing Building Automation for a Sustainable Future.

Relevance to free software

ep5 is a non-profit educational charity working on /ep5BAS/, a growing collection of source-code modules in C# from which building, process, and other automation programs can be created, even by less-experienced C# developers. Please see https://www.ep5bas.org for details.

About ep5BAS

ep5BAS is a cutting-edge, “Libre”, highly modular Building Automation System designed for the modern era of smart buildings, energy efficiency, and sustainable practices. Our mission is to empower engineers, developers, and building managers with a flexible, secure, and cost-effective platform for controlling and optimizing building systems —without vendor lock-in.

Why join ep5BAS as a volunteer?

  • Open Standards, Total Freedom: Build and deploy automation systems using open communication protocols like EtherCAT, Modbus, and BACnet.
  • Cross-Platform, Scalable Solutions: From small office buildings to large industrial complexes, ep5BAS scales with each unique application.
  • Modern Tech Stack: Leverage C#, C/C++, Python, REST APIs, MQTT, and web-based dashboards for seamless integration and control.
  • Collaborative Community: Work alongside passionate developers, engineers, and innovators from around the world.
  • Make a Real Impact: Help shape the future of sustainable, efficient, and intelligent buildings.

Current development focus areas include:

  • Cross-Platform Backend (C#•C•C++/.NET, Linux, Windows)
  • Real-Time Data Acquisition and Control via EtherCAT and Modbus
  • Secure Web-Based Dashboards (React.js, Blazor)
  • API Development (RESTful & MQTT for IoT Integration)
  • Advanced Scheduling, Trend Logging, and Alarm Management
  • Integration with Renewable Energy Sources and Smart Grid

We’re looking for volunteer contributors in:

  • Software Development (C#, C, C++, Python, .NET Core, Linux)
  • Front-End UI/UX design (React.js, Blazor, Tailwind CSS)
  • Industrial protocol integration (EtherCAT, Modbus, BACnet)
  • DevOps & CI/CD pipeline management
  • Technical documentation and tutorials
  • Voice recognition and synthesis
  • Community outreach and support
